Oscar will do one of the tightest security cloaks in his history Sunday, fielding anti-terrorist SWAT teams and snipers to protect the galaxy of star guests from a possible terror attacks. Although the 76th edition of Hollywood’s biggest and most glamorous event, the Academy Awards, will take place free from the pall of war that loomed over it last year, police are taking no chances with the potential threat of terrorist attacks or suicide bombings. “As the Oscars are extremely high-profile and well identified with American pop culture, they make an attractive terrorist target,” John Miller of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Homeland Security Bureau told AFP. “That is why we take protecting it so seriously,” he said of the event that comes a year after the outbreak of the US-led war in Iraq and two years after the first Oscars show following the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
