The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has changed its stance about how a pornographic spam email was sent this morning to people that subscribe to its electronic mailing list. Phil Battey, the director of public affairs for the FDIC, one of the government`s largest regulators of banks and financial institutions, said this afternoon that a computer security employee at the FDIC accidentally hit the wrong button when reviewing emails that had come into the regulator`s offices. Instead of being deleted, the offensive email was instead sent out to those who subscribe to the FDIC`s mailing list, which provides press releases and other notifications. Full Story
