A Hindu civilian was killed in an exchange of artillery and mortar shells by Indian and Pakistani troops over their de facto border in Kashmir, police said. Jagdish Raj was killed in the village of Bijnowa in the southern Nowshera sector along the Line of Control (LoC) — the ceasefire line that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan. Police charged Pakistani troops with opening “unprovoked fire” at forward Indian positions along the LoC on Tuesday. “Indian troops returned the fire effectively,” a police source told AFP on Wednesday.
