A questioner from Haymarket asks: What prevents a terrorist from stealing an ambulance, rigging it with a weapon of mass destruction and triggering it during the chaos of a “mass casualty incident” around Washington? Those concerns were among ones noted in written questions submitted by residents across the Washington area for an unusual town hall meeting convening today in Northern Virginia. Questions will also be addressed by District Mayor Anthony A. Williams (D), Fairfax County board Chairman Gerald E. Connolly (D) and Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan (D). For the first time since Sept. 11, 2001, federal and local Washington area officials will sit down with residents to discuss ways they can cope with the terrorism threat. The meeting is part of a public education drive that will become a focus for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security this year. Full Story
