Ukrainian security officials say that they are “ready to repel […] cyber attacks” launched by Russian state-backed hackers in an ongoing attempt to undermine the legitimacy of Ukraine’s presidential elections that will take place on 31 March.
Ukraine recently held joint defense exercises with the European Union (EU) in order to improve it’s cyber defenses. The country has already detected an increase in cyber attacks aiming to disrupt government services or gain access to government networks. Officials expect Russian hackers to increasingly target critical infrastructure as well “in order to suggest that the authorities are not in control and to undermine the integrity of the electoral count.”
