A new study by Dragos warns that cyber attacks targeting industrial control systems (ICS) are on the rise, with threat actors focusing on the oil and gas industry in particular.

ICS environments are being targeted by nine different threat groups, one of which was only recently discovered by Dragos. Five of the nine threat actors are going after oil and gas firms. The report stresses that “due to the political and economic impact, and direct effect on civilian lives and infrastructure, the oil and gas industry has a high risk for ICS-targeted destruction and disruption campaigns originating from a cyber attack.”
