Amazon Web Services launched Quantum Embark, an advisory program that aims to prepare customers for society’s shift towards quantum computing. The program—which builds upon the company’s existing quantum-computing service, Amazon Braket—will take users through up to three modules designed to provide people being introduced to the field with context, guidance and expertise, the Amazon.com unit said Friday. Quantum computing is an emerging field that harnesses qualities of quantum mechanics to solve problems that are beyond the ability of the most powerful classical computers, AWS said. Companies that operate in the field were trading higher following AWS’s announcement.
Shares of Quantum Computing jumped 28%, to $6.08, in afternoon trading. D-Wave Quantum was trading 48% higher, at $2.89, while Arqit Quantum rose 26%, to $13.40. Quantum Embark users can opt to go through a Use Case Discovery module, intended to provide an introduction to the field. Workshops will focus on quantum computing’s tangible opportunities, helping users identify relevant quantum applications based on existing business problems within their organization, AWS said. Other modules include Technical Enablement, which will provide hands-on experience to learn about how quantum computers perform calculations, and Deep Dive, which will emphasize building practical expertise in the context of one or more targeted applications.
