Earth Estries, a China-linked threat actor, is targeting Southeast Asian telecommunications companies. The actor is using GHOSTSPIDER, a new backdoor, in the attacks. They are additionally using another backdoor called MASOL RAT. The hacking group has compromised over 20 entities in multiple industries including telecommunications, government agencies, and technology sectors. The entities are located in over a dozen countries, including the U.S., India, and Taiwan. These attacks show that China’s cyber program has significantly matured.
