Interpol has arrested over 1,000 cybercrime suspects in Africa over a two-month operation called Operation Serengeti. The operation targeted various criminal suspects involved in ransomware, business email compromise, digital extortion, and scams. The operation ran from September 2 to October 31, targeting criminals in 19 African countries. Interpol was able to identify around 35,000 victims, linking to almost $193 million in financial losses around the world. Following the operation, Afripol is shifting its focus to emerging threats such as Artificial Intelligence-driven malware.
