Drone swarms pose unique problems to defenders that are not solvable using traditional anti-aircraft measures designed for single, large crafts. Responding to these unique problems, the Pentagon is developing new defenses that specifically track the crafts and plot their courses. Detection and mapping is the first step along the path towards development and integration of weapons systems designed to respond to drone swarms. And just as tanks have anti-tank counterparts and planes have anti-air counterparts, anti-drone weapons will likely become a standard component of modern military arsenals.
