For the third time in a little over a week, a threat actor using the moniker ‘Gnosticplayers’ has put a large collection of stolen data from multiple companies for sale on the Dark Web. While the first two collections affected 620 million and 127 million users respectively, the latest batch combines data from 8 breaches affecting over 92 million users.
Among the companies whose data has made it into the collection is GfyCat, a highly popular platform where people can upload and share GIF images. Gnosticplayers is asking about $9,400 in bitcoin for the database. The hacker told ZDNET that he is planning to upload more data collections soon, adding that he is motivated by two aims, namely to make money, and to further the “downfall of American pigs.”
