The recent decision by the governments of the United States and South Korea to cancel two large-scale war games and replace them with smaller drills to prevent antagonizing the North Korean regime has not achieved the desired result.
In response to the ongoing US-South Korea joint military exercises, North Korea’s official news agency KCNA reported that “the ill-boding moves of the South Korean military authorities and the US are a wanton violation of the DPRK-US joint statement [in Singapore] and the North-South declarations in which the removal of hostility and tensions were committed to.” The report did not specify how exactly the military drills violate the mentioned declarations.
