The United States on Thursday said that Iran has violated a 2015 United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution by attempting to launch two satellites and carrying out a ballistic missile test since December of last year. The US government called on the UNSC to “bring back tougher international restrictions” on Iran.
The UNSC resolution in question “called upon” Iran to cease efforts to develop ballistic missiles designed for the delivery of nuclear weapons. Iran denied the allegations, arguing that since the country does not have ballistic missiles designed to carry nuclear weapons, “none of the ballistic missile launches of Iran are covered by that resolution.”
