US special representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun on Monday stated that even though the recent summit failed, “diplomacy is still very much alive” between the Trump Administration and the North Korean regime.
Recently, various organizations have warned of renewed activity at a North Korea rocket facility. Biegun said that his government is attentively following the developments. The US official repeated the administration’s position that sanctions on North Korea will not be lifted until the regime denuclearizes fully. Biegun explicitly rejected a gradual easing of sanctions in response to North Korean steps toward denuclearization.
On Tuesday, a special adviser to South Korean president Moon Jae-in criticized America’s “all-or-nothing” approach to North Korea, saying that it will undermine the possibility of fruitful negotiations between the two countries in the near future.
