Tensions between India and Pakistan have flared up again, with Pakistan claiming to have “reliable intelligence” indicating that India plans to attack the country between April 16 and 20. Pakistan says it has informed the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), namely the US, Russia, China, France and the UK.
India denied the allegations, calling it an “irresponsible and preposterous statement” and a “public gimmick” that “appears to be a call to Pakistan-based terrorists to undertake a terror attack in India.”
In February of this year, a suicide attack by Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) that killed 42 members of India’s Central Reserve Police Force led to a crisis in Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan for the attack and both countries subsequently carried out airstrikes on each other’s territory. Tensions eased in early March, but last week both countries once again exchanged fire in Kashmir.
