A new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll shows that the recent escalation of tensions between the US and Iran has American citizens worried that a military conflict between the two countries may be inevitable. A little over half (51%) of survey respondents believe that US and Iran will go to war within the next few years.
The poll also indicates that almost 2 out of 3 Americans disagree with US President Donald Trump’s decision to pull his country out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, as 64% of respondents said they supported the international agreement that aimed to prevent Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons. In response to new US sanctions, Iran recently scaled back some of the commitments it made under the deal.
