This Sunday will mark one year since the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) went into effect. A new nCipher survey shows that awareness of privacy issues has increased in the US. A small majority of Americans (52%) care about keeping their data private and 41% even consider data privacy to be their main concern. About one-third (32%) of respondents consider data protection as important as physical security and 6% even stated that the only thing more important than safeguarding their data is keeping their family safe.
Almost two in three (64%) Americans believe companies are not fully transparent about their use of customer data, and just under half (49%) do not trust companies to safeguard their personal information. 44% prefer not to share private data at all.
