Joint research by Symantec, Goldsmiths and the University of London underlines the massive pressure that many cybersecurity professionals are working under, and shows how this is putting companies at risk. Almost two-thirds of infosec pros have thought about handing in their resignation (64%) and leaving the industry (63%) due to the pressure they face.
If a growing number of security professionals would actually begin to quit their jobs, this would create massive problems for businesses. As it is, 44% of respondents think that their security teams lack essential skills needed to protect their firm against cybersecurity threats. Moreover, about one in two infosec pros report they don’t have enough time to keep their skills up to date, and half of respondents also believe the increasing sophistication of threat campaigns is outpacing defensive resources because threat actors are often supported by large crime operations or nation-states.
