On Sunday, United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jung-un held a surprise meeting in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea. North Korean state media praised the event and stated that the two leaders agreed to “resume and push forward productive dialogues for making a new breakthrough in the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and in the bilateral relation.”
Before the meeting, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had announced that a new round of US-North Korea talks would probably take place “sometime in July.” It seems the meeting was the result of a recent exchange of letters between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jung-un. Trump and Kim had last met in February at a summit that collapsed.
