A new YouGov survey exposes a ‘gap between responsibility and action’ when it comes to people’s attitude toward cybersecurity. The report shows that while about 2 out of 3 (66%) Americans feel they are doing everything in their power to protect themselves from cybercrime, and 62% indicate that they ought to be in charge of protecting their data, the vast majority of people fail to follow various basic cybersecurity practices.
For instance, after receiving an email from an unknown sender, just 27% of respondents take steps to verify the sender’s identity. Moreover, if people notice something odd after clicking on a link that may suggest the link was malicious, only 24% make sure to scan their computer for malware.
