A new survey by PCI Pal found that 44% of Americans have been affected by a data breach, which is higher than the numbers for citizens of the UK (38%), Canada (37%) and Australia (33%). The report also confirms that data breaches can hurt businesses by destroying customer trust, with a whopping 83% of US respondents saying that they stop buying products and services from firms for several months in the wake of a breach, while 21% even boycott targeted firms indefinitely.
More than 40% of US consumers do not feel conformable sharing their credit card data with businesses over the phone, while 58% have no problem with this as long as they are dealing with certain firms they really trust.
