A standoff at a Ukrainian procurement agency is threatening to disrupt Ukraine’s weapons supply as the confrontation escalated on Monday. The dispute began four days ago when Ukraine’s defense minister fired Maryna Bezrukova, the official in charge of procuring weapons. However, Bezrukova has vowed to remain as her contract was renewed by her agency’s supervisory board. This standoff threatens to weaken the organization which oversees transparency and efficiency in acquiring arms, managing over $7 billion in weapons procurement last year. The dispute also arises at a critical time as the Ukrainian government attempts to persuade U.S. President Trump to maintain American support of Ukraine.
