GOVERNMENT offensive aimed at flushing out the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf group in the southern Philippines entered its third week, as security forces continue to hunt down militants blamed for a string of terror attacks, officials said Saturday. At least six Abu Sayyaf militants were killed and a senior leader believed wounded in the fighting in Maguindanao town, the new Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Hermogenes Esperon said. Troops were tracking down the Abu Sayyaf headed by Khadaffy Janjalani in Maguindanao’s hinterlands, Esperon said. “The operation is going and at least six terrorists had been killed and that one of their leader Abu Solaiman is wounded in the fighting,” he said.
