Robert Gates, the White House choice to be the next defense secretary, will face a “monumental challenge” in correcting mistakes in Iraq, the incoming chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee said Tuesday. Sen. Carl Levin (news, bio, voting record), D-Mich., said that Gates would face an array of problems should he be confirmed as expected to replace Donald H.
