Five Americans who were detained on Mount Everest after protesting for Tibetan independence from China said Saturday they feared for their lives while being held by Chinese security guards and were deprived of sleep, food and water for hours. They arrived in the Nepalese capital late Friday, three days after they were detained for demonstrating on the Mount Everest base camp, calling for independence for Tibet and protesting against the Beijing Olympics.
