US Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen on Tuesday warned that her department is failing to keep up with the growing number of cyber threats. “The rate at which the threats and risks are emerging is outpacing our ability to identify and assess and address them,” she said, adding that the department was also falling short by “limiting [its] thinking based on what we’ve observed in the past.”
On Monday, when the Trump Administration announced that it plans to invest $17.4 billion in federal cybersecurity efforts in fiscal 2020, Nielsen stated that cyberattacks constitute the number one threat to the US.
