A new Distil Networks report highlights the threat of malicious bots. The good news is that websites are receiving less automated traffic than in previous years, with 62% of web traffic in 2018 representing human activity, an improvement over 2017 when the number was 55%. However, bots are becoming more sophisticated and therefore more successful at getting websites to identify their activity as legitimate human traffic.
Bot traffic is highest for websites in the finance, ticketing and education sectors, where it makes up 38% to 42% of all traffic. Sophisticated bots, which make up over 21% of all bots, mostly go after ticketing services and health care websites.
