According to a new Reuters report, Russian tech giant Yandex suffered a security breach between October and November of last year, after it was targeted by hackers that were likely working for Western intelligence agencies. The campaign involved the use of Regin malware and apparently aimed to gather information about the firm’s user authentication practices, which the attackers could then utilize to target users.
Yandex claims that it detected the campaign “at a very early stage” and “fully neutralized [it]] before any damage was done.” However, sources told Reuters that the breach went by unnoticed for weeks before the tech firm finally caught on and took action.
