NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned on Wednesday that the alliance needs to “address the rise of China,” by cooperating with regional partners like Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.
Stoltenberg pointed to Beijing’s investments in critical infrastructure in Europe; increased activity in the Arctic; growing presence in Africa as well as developments in cyberspace as prime examples of how “China is coming closer to us.” The Trump administration has been urging NATO to focus more on China.
