Security researchers at Cyren have uncovered a new ransomware campaign that targets players of the immensely popular online video game Fortnite. The payload, called “Syrk” is disguised as a game hack that will improve players’ aim and let them know the location of other players. The threat actors are likely sharing download links to the file on online forums.
When players download the hack, their machine will get infected with Syrk, which is actually a ransomware strain known as Hidden-Cry. The ransomware will encrypt their files and then demand a ransom. The campaign puts hundreds of millions of Fortnite users at risk.
