After Drone strikes targeted two Saudi Aramco oil facilities last month, disrupting about half of the kingdom’s oil capacity, the United States government carried out a cyberattack on Iranian IT systems, according to a new Reuters report. The cyber offensive allegedly aimed to hit Iran’s propaganda machine.
Although Yemen’s Houthi rebels took responsibility for the drone attacks, the US, Saudi Arabia and various other countries attributed them to Iran, which denied any involvement. In June, the US also opted for a cyberattack on Iranian systems instead of a military option after Tehran shot down a US drone. Tensions between the two countries have remained high over the past months.
