Cybercriminals are registering domain names and creating thousands of fraudulent online stores to target Black Friday shoppers. These fraudsters are building websites with SHOPYY, a Chinese e-commerce platform, and large language models (LLMs). Netcraft Software Engineering Team saw a 110% increase in domains with fake stores from August to October of this year. These sites have scraped Amazon product listings and are offering the same products at discounted prices. Consumers should be skeptical about deals that appear to be too good to be true when shopping online.
