Georgia’s ruiling party will move to ban three main opposition parties.
The speaker of the parliament of Georgia announced that the ruling party Georgian Dream has filed a lawsuit with the constitutional court to ban the country’s three largest opposition blocs on the grounds that they threaten constitutional order. The move comes amid concerns about growing authoritarianism in Georgia, as opposition figures have been jailed and protests suppressed. Georgian Dream says it still supports EU accession but only on terms it defines, including peace with Russia.
