A former opposition member of parliament was shot in Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, in an apparent assassination attack. Lim Kimya was a former member of Cambodia’s National Assembly and part of the now-exiled Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP). While many former opposition politicians had fled Cambodia in fear of threats from the country’s governing party, Lim Kimya had continued to live in Cambodia. The CNRP was once hugely popular in the country but was banned by Cambodia’s Supreme Court in 2017.
