Canada’s deputy prime minister and finance minister has resigned. As one of Canada’s top ministers, Chrystia Freeland was helping to lead Canada’s response to the incoming Trump administration. This is a blow to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s hold on power. Freeland accused Trudeau of engaging in “costly political gimmicks” in her letter of resignation. She stated that Trudeau was focused on measures that would add to the Canadian government’s deficit instead of countering Donald Trump’s threat of 25 percent tariffs on goods from Canada.
