An Israeli citizen suspected of illegally shipping high-tech equipment to Pakistan that could detonate nuclear weapons can be released on $75,000 cash bond, a judge ruled. Despite U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Watanabe’s order Monday, Asher Karni will remain in federal custody until at least Thursday while the government appeals the bond decision, said Jeff Dorschner, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver. Karni, 50, who lives in South Africa, was arrested at Denver International Airport on Jan. 2 and accused of sending to Pakistan hundreds of triggered spark gaps — high-speed electrical switches capable of sending synchronized electronic pulses.
