The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday withdrew a statement saying 42 foreign ships had been denied entry and 38 had been detained in port from July 1-5 for security flaws, saying the information was incorrect. “The figures in the statement are wrong. We will issue a new statement later,” a Coast Guard spokesperson said. The Coast Guard has been strictly enforcing the United Nations’ new International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, which came into force on July 1 and is designed to thwart seaborne terrorist attacks.
