The International Crisis Group says Indonesia needs to completely overhaul its security forces, to stand any chance of fighting terrorism. In its latest report on Indonesia, the Brussels-based organization said poor coordination between the police and the military would hamper anti-terrorism efforts. The I-C-G report said the understaffed police and the powerful military were both pursuing vested interests. It said the 280,000-strong police force lacked the capacity to tackle terror threats. The report said the government must legislate to curb the powers of the armed forces while providing greater guidance on how they should operate.Full Story
