Bali bomb trial moves a step closer

Indonesian police on Wednesday handed their case against the alleged mastermind of last October’s Bali bombings and four accomplices to prosecutors. The move means trials of the key suspects could begin as early as next month. Imam Samudra faces the death penalty if convicted of planning the October 12 attack on two Bali nightclubs. Of the four others, two could face the death penalty while the other two face imprisonment for a maximum of 15 years. Under Indonesia’s legal system, prosecutors have two weeks to review the police case against Mr Samudra and decide whether or not to file formal charges and proceed to trial. Prosecutors are now also reviewing previously-submitted cases against other key suspects in the Bali attack for which 29 suspects have been arrested to date. Full Story
