The African Union has condemned Guinea’s President Lansana Conte for a “disproportionate use” of military force to quell civil unrest that has rocked the west African nation for weeks. AU Commission chief Alpha Oumar Konare protested to Conte, who has ruled Guinea since a bloodless 1984 military coup, for “using the armed forces as an intrument” against civilians. Full Story
