President Vicente Fox said Friday that he had no evidence of corruption or incompetence in investigations into the unsolved killings of scores of young women in the border city of Ciudad Juarez, despite a torrent of criticism from human rights groups. Amnesty International and other rights groups, members of the U.S. Congress and victims’ families have alleged that investigations into Mexico’s most notorious killing spree have been poisoned by fabricated and lost evidence, shoddy investigative techniques and police torture of suspects. “I respect their opinion, but we haven’t found those conditions in these cases,” Fox said in an interview, adding that he was satisfied with the investigations into the decade-long string of killings.
