The U.S. Supreme Court said on Monday it would decide whether a Mexican doctor can sue the U.S. government and a former Mexican police officer for his kidnapping in Mexico so he could be brought to the United States to face charges of murdering an American drug agent. The justices agreed to review a federal appeals court ruling that Humberto Alvarez-Machain can seek monetary damages over his 1990 abduction and detention by Mexicans who acted at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s request. A former Mexican police officer and others kidnapped Alvarez-Machain from his office in Mexico for his alleged involvement in the 1985 torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in Mexico.
