Violence swept through the Philippines on Monday as Filipinos flocked to the polls to elect new leaders. At least 20 people were killed and several others injured in attacks in a number of areas throughout the country, officials and news reports said. At stake are the positions of president and vice president, 12 Senate slots, 212 congressional seats and more than 17,000 local offices, from provincial governor to town councilor.
