Police in central Mexico have arrested a top figure in that country’s Gulf Cartel of drug traffickers, local media reported Wednesday. Newspapers in Mexico City said Ramiro Hernandez Garcia, also known as “El Mati,” was arrested Tuesday along with six cohorts. The reports said $2 million and 160 kilos of cocaine were seized in the raid. Hernandez was identified by the press as the top lieutenant to Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, brother of cartel boss Osiel Cardenas, who was arrested in March 2003 in the northern state of Tamaulipas.
