President Vicente Fox’s commitment to human rights has not been enough to do away with the practice of torture in the country, a high-ranking Foreign Relations official said Thursday. Patricia Olamendi, the ministry’s undersecretary for global affairs and human rights, said that incidents of tortures in Mexico are similar to those experienced in other parts of the world where torture “continues to persist to a greater or lesser degree.” Full Story
