Nicaragua’s congress has included on its agenda an amnesty law for ex-President Arnoldo Alemán, who was convicted on fraud and money-laundering charges. The proposed measure also would forgive a number of current and ex-officials accused of breaking election laws during the 2001 campaign of current President Enrique Bolaños. Bolaños opposes the bill, and could veto it. The Sandinistas also oppose the bill and were expected to boycott any vote so that those in favor of the law would lack a quorum. Full Story
