The U.S. government will ask Congress to extend trade benefits to Andean nations that expire this year and maintain military aid to Colombia for at least two more years, a top U.S. official said on Tuesday. U.S. Under-Secretary of State Nicholas Burns said Washington wants to extend the Andean Trade Preference and Drug Eradication pact, which gives favorable trade terms to Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru for anti-drug cooperation.
