New research by NAVEX Global shows that a majority of organizations with basic ethics and compliance programs view them as an insurance policy or a necessary evil (52%) instead of as a key element in their overall approach to risk management (48%). The survey also found that companies that have adopted multiple ethics and compliance solutions are more successful at preventing violations.
According to the researchers it is important that executives demonstrate that ethics and compliance programs are inherently valuable because “leaders who view compliance programs as insurance policies or necessary evils – as many do, particularly within less-mature organizations – are sending the wrong message to their workforce.”
