FBI confirms China-linked cyber espionage involving breached telecom providers

The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have confirmed that China was involved in a recent cyber espionage campaign. In the operation, Chinese threat actors breached U.S. telecommunications and internet service providers. These attacks were part of a broader cyber espionage campaign. The Chinese hackers compromised the networks of these companies, allowing them to steal customer call record data. The attackers were able to compromise private communications of a few individuals with government or political involvement. The attacks had been attributed to Salt Typhoon, a Chinese state-sponsored cyber threat group. The FBI and CISA will continue to investigate the compromises.
