Patrick Scannell is a technology executive, interdisciplinary author, and strategic adviser who has spent three decades building technology and studying its consequences. His career spans the early internet, mobile devices, personal computing, the Internet of Things, smart infrastructure, and national-security communications, including corporate leadership roles managing billion-dollar product portfolios, startup ventures, and advisory work for the U.S. government on 5G and AI.
Alongside that career, Scannell has spent thirteen years researching how accelerating technology reshapes human thought, institutions, and national resilience. His first book, The Disruption of Thought, published by Brill with a foreword by Vint Cerf, examines the widening gap between technological change and human adaptation. His second, The Great Irony of Technology, is forthcoming from Brill in 2027.
He brings those two tracks together to help business, policy, academic, and national-security leaders ask not only what technology can do, but toward what ends—and how it can strengthen human capability, institutional judgment, and societal resilience.
